(Christmas) Popsicle Star

ABOUT THIS SONG

He built rockets at Redstone and got beat by a popsicle stick star glued together by his four year old.

LYRICS

There's a town out past Huntsville where the pine and poplar fall
A fella on the night shift, sawdust on his overalls
He's cuttin' popsicle sticks by the thousand through the night
Never knowin' one of 'em would hang with Christmas lights

Back then I worked at Redstone, buildin' rockets for the sky
Come home after midnight, kiss her forehead, tiptoe by
I built a hundred rockets, sent 'em reachin' out so far
Never knowin' I'd be beaten by a popsicle star

Then a Wednesday in December, cold rain on the daycare line
A paper plate, some Elmer's glue, and a little girl of mine

Five little sticks and a whole lotta gold
Glued on crooked by a four-year-old
From a small town past Huntsville to a glitter jar
Came my baby's popsicle star

Dragged the tub down from the attic, Christmas written on the lid
Tangled lights and a Rudolph, and way down deep is where it hid
Glitter on my fingers and a lump I can't swallow down
She's a mama in Tuscaloosa, two hours south of town

Five little sticks and a whole lotta gold
Glued on crooked by a four-year-old
From a small town past Huntsville to a glitter jar
Came my baby's popsicle star

Leanin' up on top, sheddin' on the floor
Worth more than an angel from the store
Every time I walk past it, I'm back in that rainy car
With my baby's popsicle star

Christmas Eve, a car pulled in with a Roll Tide on the tag
Little light-up Walmart shoes and a crumpled paper bag
She said, Paw-Paw, look what I made, and Lord, it caught the light
Another crooked star to keep the first one warm tonight

Five little sticks and a whole lotta gold
Glued on crooked by a four-year-old
Now there's two up there together, crooked as they are
By my baby's popsicle star

Two popsicle stars

ABOUT "(CHRISTMAS) POPSICLE STAR"

"(Christmas) Popsicle Star" is an original country love song written and recorded by Chad Sanders, an independent country music artist and songwriter from Alabama.

He built rockets at Redstone and got beat by a popsicle stick star glued together by his four year old.

Fans of Alabama country music and small-town country will find something real in this track, the kind of honest storytelling Chad Sanders is known for across his original catalog.

Chad Sanders writes and records from the perspective of someone rooted in North Alabama, North Alabama specifically, in the heart of Marshall County. His music reflects life as it actually is in small-town America, not as it's packaged for radio.
