Odis and Me
CHAD SANDERS
ABOUT THIS SONG
Seven years old behind the shed with cousin Odis, then around the old piano come Sunday. Aunt Doris took the top, Odis took the bottom, and the middle is where he learned harmony.
LYRICS
Seven years old, cousin Odis and me Standin' out behind the shed Racin' to pee in a Nehi bottle My Aunt Doris caught us and said Jesus sees everything you do Now you're both about to pay I never understood why the Good Lord above Would worry 'bout us boys at play We'd gather round that old piano Everybody found their part Aunt Doris singin' high above Ooh Odis sang low from the heart I'll fly away She took the top I saw the light He took the bottom Swing down And they left the middle to me Ooh That's where I learned harmony Odis and me Sunday mornin' at the church Folks would rise and speak in tongues Aunt Doris said they talked to angels My brother Chris, two years young We got a nickel for every fly we killed Chased chickens, fed the hogs by the creek We had more fun in just one day Than kids nowadays in a week We'd gather round that old piano Everybody found their part Aunt Doris singin' high above Ooh Odis sang low from the heart I'll fly away She took the top I saw the light He took the bottom Swing down And they left the middle to me Ooh That's where I learned harmony Odis and me Darlene sang it sweet and clear Deeanna right there by her side Dorisanne kept time with a tambourine Odis sang with all his pride Will the circle be unbroken Every voice would climb up higher I saw the light and I'll fly away Till we sounded like a choir That old piano's quiet now But I still can hear each part Aunt Doris singin' high above Ooh Odis sang low from the heart Guess Jesus was watchin' after all Watchin' over Odis and me Ooh That's where I learned harmony Odis and me
